A perfect follow-up project after “QuickSync.me” and “Smart Home Application” was the support of the commissioning of the extensive building automation in a new building of data center. In addition to the technical challenges and the joy of having a great team there, it was very exciting to find out what an extremely high effort it means to operate such a building.
In the “QuickSync.me” project, we assumed about 1kWh per year for each 1GB saved. But only the server performance was taken into account. In such a data center, however, various other systems also run in parallel. Just the energy consumption of the active room cooling should be more than the server performance itself. Additionally with fire protection and UPS systems, about 3kWh per year should come into account for only 1GB stored a year.
